As some of you may know, body oils are easy to use as moisturizers either in the bath or applied directly to the skin. They can also be used as massage oils depending on the oils used to make them! Better yet, you can make your own.
Why a body oil?
Body oils are great moisturizers because the natural oils used to make them can be deeply nourishing for the skin as well be very hydrating! For example, Avocado oil is used a lot in the cosmetic industry for its highly penetrating, nourishing, and softening properties when used in skin care. It can potentially help prevent chapping, cracking, and even stretch marks when formulated properly! It can be especially useful for skin conditions where there is inflammation also.
Not only are body oils great moisturizers, but the majority of the time, they are free of synthetic components that most purists like myself avoid. If you look at most body oil recipes, they do not contain parabens or sulfates.
Because of their consistency, body oils can be very easy to use and will typically last a very long time. My four ounce containers of Body & Massage Oils can last anywhere from four to six months!
The best reason to use them, is that they are easy to make if you want one without preservatives! Please note, if you are intending to create a body oil that has the potential to be contaminated by water, you should use a preservative. This is especially true if you will be selling the item! After all, water breeds life.
