Who loves a great lip balm? I know I do! Did you know they're actually quite easy to make and require only two basic ingredients? That's right!

Here, you'll find a very easy and fun DIY Vanilla Lip Balm recipe you can use any time of year.

This recipe is a two part recipe. As mentioned in my previous blog post, CO2 Vanilla is considered safe to ingest, however because I want to enlist the help of my four year old in this project, we are going to create an infusion using vanilla bean pods and jojoba wax.

Infusions are very easy to make! They just take a few minutes, and depending on the products used, can be made in large batches and kept for long periods of time. In general, they are great in skincare products!

To begin, make sure you have all of these ingredients:

  • 7 ounces Jojoba Wax
  • Vanilla Bean Pods
  • Bees Wax
  • 24-25 Lip Balm Tubes (5ml size or 1/6 oz size)
  • 1 Lip Balm Tray
  • 1 8-16 ounce Glass Jar
  • Kitchen Scale
  • Gloves (these are highlyrecommended if you are making gifts for friends and family)
  • Pipettes (if you want to have little hands help you, this will make it safer!)

To make your vanilla infusion, simply add three to four vanilla bean pods to an eight ounce glass jar and fill the jar with seven ounces of jojoba, and let it sit for about a few weeks. It does not need to be in the light or the dark, it just needs to sit somewhere it will not be concerned by little hands! After a few weeks, remove the vanilla bean pods, and you’re left with the most amazing smelling vanilla infused jojoba for your skincare products.

If you want to use another type of oil, feel free to do so, but note many other oils do not have a very long shelf life. I recommend using Jojoba wax for this reason with this infusion.

Lip Balm Recipe

  • 1 ounce of beeswax
  • 3 ounces of vanilla infused jojoba

  • Measure the jojoba and beeswax by weight.
  • Melt the jojoba and the beeswax in a Pyrex glass measuring cup (use the double boiler method in the picture below).

  • Put your lip balm tubes in your tray and set it on top of some type of covering for easy cleanup after. I use plastic wrap as it is a handy commodity in my home although aluminum foil or wax paper work well, too.

  • Once everything is melted, take Pyrex glass out of the double boiler and dry bottom and place near lip balm tube tray. IF you are using plastic wrap, do not set on the plastic.
  • Simply squeeze the hot liquid into the pipette and then squeeze it out into the lip balm tube. Fill them to the top.
  • If the hot wax begins to solidify, you can put the Pyrex back in the hot water to re-melt it if needed. This may happen if you have little hands helping you, so be patient!
  • Once all the tubes are full and have solidified you can remove the tubes.
  • Gently pull them from the underside of the tray, and cap them.
  • Leave them standing upright for a few hours to cool.

You now have a wonderful Vanilla lip balm that will last a very long time! Doesn’t it smell amazing? Feel free to leave a comment below and let me know how you like this recipe!
