With the coming of the Spring Equinox, I find myself drawn to creating. Whether it is creating that perfect new blend or writing the pull is there. Today, I'm focusing on inspiring creativity with essential oils.
After creating my newest blend Anxiety Aid I find myself feeling like I need to create something else. So, here I sit in the early morning with my tea light burner, my crystals, my favorite blend of essential oils, my coffee, and my writing tools.
Being inspired by the beautiful weather we are having in Arizona, I take pause as I listen to the soothing sounds of the birds greeting me. I catch the sun peaking over the wall that separates my place of solitude from my neighbor.
As I sit here looking for a topic that is one that my readers will enjoy I am reminded yet again of “creation....” and “birth…” Feeling the sun gaze onto my crown, I continue to search for a topic.
There are many that would love to have me teach them everything I have learned from my aromatherapy schooling and self-studies. The topics that can be covered can be overwhelming there are so many. So why is it so hard when I am feeling pulled to create via writing to choose a topic?
Is it because everyone else has already written about all topics? Is it because I worry about what my readers will be interested in?
While I want to create, I have to be honest, some of the reason I write is so that I can maintain my blog and encourage better SEO. UGH. And now I find my topic.
The importance of creation but truly being pulled to create versus being forced to create. Can this be equated to aromatherapy?
Without hesitation-ABSOLUTELY!
Being forced to create….
As an aromatherapist who chose to go into the business of sales, I will tell you there are more times than not that I feel “forced” to create in some way. Especially in the area of writing. If you operate any business that requires an online prescense you know what I am talking about.
This feeling can get all of us into a never ending cycle that ends in burnout, but thankfully there are things we can do to become inspired. But first, I want to make sure you fully understand why I think it is more important to be pulled versus forced.
Being inspired to create….
The notion that we can be pulled, drawn or inspired to create is nothing new. It is in a space where we are truly at peace and are open to inspiration that we create. For some, we create the most amazing and soul inspiring blends. For others, we write or discuss aromatherapy topics that empower and truly help others.
This space is where we can achieve our most heartfelt creations that have the most potential for healing.
What can we do avoid the feeling of being forced?
If you are like me, you may find much of what I share helpful. After all, we all want to be inspired and feel creative!
This is so important! When we are not at our best, it is all too easy for us to fall prey that feeling of being forced.
Do you remember the Duncan Donuts commercial from the 80’s where the man gets out of bed and says “Time to make the donuts….?” It is clear that he is tired and is being “forced” to do his job. It is this feeling of being tired that doesn’t allow us to be at our best. Being at our best, allows us to be open to inspiration in our daily life from the smallest of things. Are you seeing a pattern here?
This is one of the most overlooked things we can do to support our body’s health and wellness. If our body is properly fueled, our mind (mental health) will also be in a positive state.
Doing something that you truly love can really affect your mental state in a very positive manner. For me, I really enjoy the outdoors. Hence my being outside first thing this morning with a few of my favorite things!
Doing or trying something new can really get us out of our head. It allows us to really be free and open enough to be inspired by even the smallest of things! Kandice Linwright recently talked about this on Facebook and it is so true!
Getting fit or maintaining your fitness can have a very positive effect on our mental health. It isn’t always about our physical stature although that does help! When we look good, we feel good. If we feel good we can create the most amazing things!
Yes, I am encouraging you to use essential oils! I am doing so because our sense of smell affects our emotions and mental state so deeply that it can trigger memories! Clearly if you have a negative memory that you associate with the smell of patchouli, you will want to avoid it….negative memories put us in a negative state of mind…. So avoid those!
In the next section, I am going to go more in depth with what oils to use and why. Please remember before using any or all of these suggestions, that you consider any potential safety or medical concerns before using them.
Essential oils to use for your own blend to inspire creativity
Citrus essential oils
For many, these are uplifting as well as protective emotionally/energetically. They offer a sense of happiness as well. A few good examples are below.
Grounding essential oils
It is important to be grounded in our process of creativity. Without it, we can become easily distracted. I know for me, I gravitate to more grounding essential oil blends in my creative process which is why I use my Meditation blend. Grounding essential oils can vary from those obtained from woods, resins, and even grass. They are also emotionally/energetically protective and in their own right allow us to create our own sacred space which is important. Below are just a few of the many…
Heart inspiring essential oils
These can be very important for many, especially with creativity. If our heart isn’t in it, will our mind be in it? For me, I just can’t create blends, write, or anything if my heart isn’t in it. There are so many essential oils that can be great for opening our hearts and getting us involved mentally.
Inspirational gratitude…
As this article comes to a close, I hope it has helped you in some way. I know for me I am feeling somewhat rejuvenated just in being able to write all of this! I certainly was not intending on writing over 1,000 words this morning!
So take care of yourself in the best way you can by the methods above and inspire yourself.
