Edible & Kissable Lip Scrub
On rare occasions I find myself looking for inspirations for my next DIY recipe that I can share. Today was one of those days. While I like Pinterest, it is not a place that I search for kid friendly recipes for skincare. For me, I knew I wanted to share a great scrub recipe, but let us be honest. Everyone has shared them, made them, and even gifted them. While my business started with my love and obsession of scrubs, I have even started looking to create those that are not the norm.
A few minutes after thinking about how my scrubs have changed, I remembered something a client in April did and told me. I had a small sample of my current scrubs available for clients to see and smell so they could see the newest and more superior scrub I had created to replace my original scrubs. This particular client had just come from another location that did nothing but sell scrubs. Her first comment was, "Is this a real scrub?" I assured her it was and then she did something unexpected. She put it to her lips. Her response for her love of my scrub was amazing. With that memory and her action, I found what I wanted to do. A completely edible lip scrub!
As most of you know, I have been professionally trained in aromatherapy and use my training to create natural aromatherapy skincare. With my training, I can assure you that if you do not have a licensed doctor with advanced training in aromatherapy, there is no need for ingestion of those oils. So for this recipe, I will just be utilizing edible ingredients that most can find in your kitchen daily. Now onto the fun part!
- .5 ounce of organic cane or brown sugar
- .5 ounce of raw honey
- .5 ounce of organic virgin coconut oil
Please note, if you do not have organic ingredients, any form of coconut oil or sugar (white or brown) will work just fine. I choose to use organic when I have the opportunity as they provide more benefits to my skin.
- Measure all ingredients.
- Mix all the ingredients together.
- Use or refrigerate in a small container.
- This scrub will last for about a week refrigerated due to the nature of the ingredients.
A good size container for storage of this scrub is a 2 ounce container.
- If you are planning to use all of your lip scrub within a couple days, to make it more fun and tasty, squeeze one of your favorite citrus fruits into the mixture.
- This scrub will last with the citrus juice for no more than a couple days refrigerated.
While this scrub makes a fantastic lip scrub, if you like the more gentle exfoliation it provides, you can certainly use it for your other parts of your body. If you like a more course texture for your exfoliator, try substituting Himalayan salts as well.
