Alligator Juniper Hydrosol

Common Name: Alligator Juniper Hydrosol

Botanical name: Juniperus deppeana

Origin: Buckeye AZ, USA.

Distilled: July 2020

Shelf Life: 1-2 years

Notes about the distiller and harvest:

Our Alligator Juniper for this distillation is unique in that the tree was struck by lightening. This gives it some pretty potent energetic qualities! The tree was estimated to be a couple hundred years old by it's size/rings.

The tree was harvested by the land's owner and cut into slabs which we were able to acquire and mill into shavings. After a single slab was milled we delivered the shavings our local artisan distiller. The essential oil yield was lower than anticipated although the aroma was breath taking!

The distillation was about a 10 hour distillation using very low temperatures to ensure we captured all of the hydrophillic components we could for the hydrosol and still be able to produce essential oil. The still used was a stainless steel still with a capacity for 55 gallons of material.

Once the initial batch was bottled, a sample was sent to the Sage Script for testing to ensure that it was not compromised in any way during or after distillation regardless of how careful we are to maintain cGMP. The report will be posted below verifying that no bacteria, fungi, or mold were detected in the testing once we have results.

Aroma: The aroma of this hydrosol is sweet and woodsy with hints of balsamic and smoky notes. It is very similar to the essential oil but not nearly as rich and deep as the essential oil.

Hydrosols can be used for a wide range of purposes as toners, tonics, energizers, and other natural functions.

Usage ideas:

  • Can be used as an astringent and skin toner for those with acneic concerns
  • Use in steam tents
  • Can be used as a soothing, grounding and relaxing room/pillow spray
  • Use in cool compresses to soothe joint concerns during edema and arthritic conditions
  • Use diluted as a type of diuretic tonic during cleanses

To get the most use of your hydrosols, I recommend storing them in cold, dark places or refrigerators. The average shelf life is approximately 1-2 years for this hydrosol. The shelf life can be extended if stored properly.

This hydrosol is packaged in a clear glass 1 or 2 ounce bottle with an atomizer so it is ready for immediate use. Larger sizes include an 8 ounce blue PET bottle (disc cap) or a 32 ounce clear glass bottle with a cone cap.

Safety: Do not use if you have been diagnosed with kidney disease or are in your first trimester of pregnancy.
